The first day of our journey to Guangzhou to bring Ainsley
Xia’an home started with an emotional farewell at the Pittsburgh
International Airport. Shannon and Griffin (22 days old today!)
took David and the “traveling grandmas” to the airport and spent
some time together before everyone had to depart. The goodbyes
were very difficult, but we all reminded each other that this
trip has a great ending in sight as we will soon be bringing
Ainsley Xia’an home! Before going through security, with Shannon
and Griffin on one side and the travelers on the other, Shannon
gave David and each of the “traveling grandmas” a letter to read
along the journey to Guangzhou.
The flight from Pittsburgh to Detroit went very smoothly. In
fact, we arrived in Detroit more than 30 minutes early. We are
now writing from the airport in Detroit as we await boarding of
our 13-hour flight from Detroit to Tokyo. We wanted to provide
an update now because we will not have another chance to do so
until we are in China on April 1, 2007, following another 5-hour
flight from Tokyo to Guangzhou. Along the way, we will be
sleeping as much as possible on “China time” while flying.
The next time you “hear” from us we will be in China and only
one day away from meeting Ainsley!! Please pray for her and for
us as we prepare for this incredible moment. And please pray for
Shannon and Griffin as they remain back in Pittsburgh.
