Monday, June 6
Breakfast started the day and we awoke with plenty of time to
get down before 8 a.m. The french toast was awesome again.
Isabelle had a bottle and tried some solid foods but then she
'tossed cookies' a couple of times so we will stick with formula
for now. She has had success with cocoa krispies (Chinese
version) and some other things so we were surprised by this
morning's episodes but we can always slow down and try again
later. She was in a great mood despite heaving and so we went
to the room where she finished her formula and then she was
tired but we had to go for her physical at 10 a.m. so we tried
to keep her awake and it worked because she was wide awake when
we arrived at the physical examination (name on building)
building. Now that place was very interesting. It was very
clean but was like a big city emergency room, there were people
everywhere and we were shuffled to the back of the clinic where
it said "Adoption physical examinations." The doctors were as
thorough as they needed to be and we discovered Isabelle's
measurements for the first time: 28 inches in height, 16.72
pounds, and 17 inch head size. There was a concern about her
heart but that was because the examining doctor heard the heart
murmur and did not know that she had not had surgery to correct
her atrial septal defect yet. Another doctor examined Isabelle
and our CCAI rep, Grace, informed them that Isabelle had not had
the surgery and then they were fine with her condition.
Stefanie asked the second doctor if he thought she would need
surgery right away and his reply of, "NO" was greeted with grins
all around. We had been a little bit concerned that her heart
condition may have previously been understated but that
apparently is not the case. We finished up and headed for the
room.
On the way back we walked through the park and there were people
everywhere exercising and playing sports. It probably helps
demonstrate why so many Chinese people are in good shape. I
don't know that I have ever seen nicer, cleaner parks than we
have seen here. I know that they all seem to be well utilized
all day long. We saw soldiers training, badminton, hacky sacks,
and people using the exercise machines in the park. When we got
to the room Isabelle was very tired so we laid her down for a
nap. While Stefanie was getting her to sleep I decided to try
to watch some television but you can see from the photo that I
didn't do so well on the 'watching' part, though the remote
seems to be perched perfectly.
While Isabelle slept, Stefanie and Tori went out and
accomplished some shopping and picked up our laundry from
Jennifer's. They came back with some neat stuff and then it was
time for them to skedaddle to the pearl market to get some
pearls for family back home. Isabelle woke just prior to them
leaving for the pearl market so I was able to feed her formula
while finishing watching "Top Gun" on HBO. After eating, she
and I went to exchange the outfit she would wear for the red
couch photo. We previously bought her a size one but she has
grown all the way into a size two. We exchanged it and then
took a stroll around the park and then back to the White Swan to
await the return of the shoppers. They got back and Stefanie
was able to give Isabelle a bath, feed her, and get her dressed
for the red couch photo.
We went to the second floor and posed for our photo and several
others that you would have to see on video to believe. There
were actually ten families there and getting all the children
into a photo was like herding cats. There were criers,
sleepers, squirmers, screamers and walkers all being situated by
parents and it was a sight to behold.
We went to dinner with a number of families from CCAI at the Cow
& Bridge Thai restaurant and it was fantastic. Then, guess
what, it was time to shop again. We went to the grocery and got
some Coke Light and some more gifts. We got in touch with Zach
and it was good to hear from him and catch up. Now is time for
sleep, wonderful sleep.
Tomorrow is very easy so long as our paperwork is OK. We just
have to wait in the room until 10:30 a.m. and if everything is
OK then we are free for the day. Let's pray that that is what
happens!
