A LONG ROUGH DAY FOR
ALL OF US!

The day started off with Mia vomiting (projectile) all over me...fun. The good news is she hasn't vomited since. She came to us with a very nasty cold and cough and has been pulling on her ears a lot. I am suspecting she might have an earache. I have started her on an antibiotic and some Motrin. I hope she feels better soon. Even though she has been sick, she still seems to be adjusting well.

After we all got cleaned up, our guide said she would pick us up at 9:00 in the hotel lobby to take us to the Inner Mongolia history museum. When we arrived, our guide walked us to the front doors and then said, "I will be back to pick you up at 11:30." Okay...I thought she was coming with us. When we went through security they confiscated Mia's sippy cup...I am not sure why, because nobody spoke english. In the Museum, only half of the exhibits were written in english too. All of the exhibits were written in mandarin and most were also in arabic. The museum wasn't very much fun because everyone kept staring at us and taking our pictures. This was more of an annoyance to Nathan and me, but was scary to Lexi. When our guide came back, we were stopped by 3 large groups of people on the way out just to take pictures with us. Keep in mind they were huddling around us and touching us. Our guide said they don't get many foreigners around here. Uh...I
wonder why!?!

The museum is only 2 years old and the entire inside is marble and it
still has squatty pottys!?! At least these squatty pottys were clean.
We also learned that "Inner Mongolia had many problems before China
communism and now the mongolian people are no longer crude, but a happy
people under China's communism." That is what the sign written in
english said. I wish I would've taken a picture.

Also, Mia didn't seem like herself. I originally thought it was because she didn't feel well, but now I think she might have been scared we were leaving her (breaks my heart.) The last two car rides Mia has gone on were back in October when she went from the foster home back to the orphanage and then when they brought her to us. Now that we are back in our room she is all smiles.

We had requested for our guide to take us to pick up some baby supplies because our agency said to just bring a couple of days worth and your guide will take you to Wal-mart or Carefour. The agency does this to save room on packing since in-country China flights have a very low luggage allowance. Instead of taking us to either of these places, we were taken a block from the hotel to a tiny little expensive shop where we were told to get what we needed. Then our guide left us there and told us she would see us tomorrow at 9:30. We were a little prepared this might happen from a previous family that had her, but our guide in Beijing was wonderful and I know there are many good guides in the different provinces. I guess you can say we are a little disappointed with today. It is just really hard when nobody speaks english and YOU are a museum exhibit (a hungry one at that!)

When we returned to our hotel room the toilet was leaking. That's just great! We had to repack all of our stuff and move to a different room. The silver lining however is we were upgraded to a suite. There is a lot more room for the girls and we don't have all the clutter here because there are two bathrooms and multiple drawers! Another good thing...we received Mia's passport from the Chinese government and our official adoption papers so we can leave with her!!! I am not really sure why we have to stay an additional 3 days since it seems like we have completed all the adoption paperwork for Inner Mongolia.

Mia always wants to be by Lexi.
She actually fell asleep this way last night.

She was so worth the wait!

Mom why do they keep pointing and staring at us?

Yep, they are still staring!

Squatty potty anyone? At least this one is clean!
I apologize for the negativity in this post. I know this is not a real "vacation", we are here for a purpose and that purpose is Mia. We are so grateful for Mia and we know that soon this will be but a distant memory. Mia is the perfect child for us and we are glad that we are here to get her! In 3 days, we will be in warmer weather and have the possibility of having some american food...hooray!
