MERRY
CHRISTMAS!
Breakfast was wonderful! They seemed to have more American food
on the buffet today and they were playing Christmas music in
English! Mia unfortunately started vomiting again last night. We
can't seem to figure out why. She doesn't seem to be running a
fever anymore and there isn't anything different that she has
eaten when she starts vomiting. When she vomits...it is
projectile and there is a lot of it. We are hoping she does ok
on the 4 and a half hour plane ride today. It could get ugly!
As we are packing and getting ready to leave for the airport I
can't help but to reflect on the past week. It has been amazing.
I would be lying if I didn't say part of it has been somewhat
difficult for the family from the midwest! The farthest we have
traveled previously was to Mexico and the Caribbean. I am sure
Inner Mongolia is a beautiful province...we just haven't been
able to see as much as we would have liked to because of the
frigid weather and sick child. As for the Shangri-La hotel...it
is a beautiful hotel. For those waiting to travel I would say:
The Pros
- The indoor pool for Lexi was very nice, Mia wasn't able to
swim since she was sick.
- The excellent staff! Usually, the first person you talk to has
no idea what you are saying but, they will get someone that
does. If that fails and you are
on the phone they will come to your room and you will perform a
game of charades. So far this has worked out just fine for us.
- Breakfast usually has a couple of American items on the
buffet.
- They have HBO in English...we have watched Fred Clause and The
Grinch way to many times this week!
The Cons
- It is not within walking distance of any American food...at
least not in the dead of winter..
- The lunch buffet doesn't have any American food on it. We
didn't try the dinner buffet.
- There aren't any pizza places that deliver here.
- Very hard to navigate the area around the hotel because no one
seems to speak any English outside of the hotel. |
Clothing that Mia was wearing when she came to us. They sent
back the camera, picture album, and panda we sent to her. Her
foster mother sent
a note for her when she is older.
We didn't know there were mountains that could be seen from our
room. We caught a glimpse of the mountains early this morning
before traffic. We
can't see them anymore because of all the pollution.
Mia thinks it is hilarious playing hard to get with Daddy! |
We will be forever
grateful to this province and to China for allowing us to adopt
Mia. We are so happy to have her. We can tell she is really
comfortable with us. This is the child that didn't cry one tear
the first 24 hours we had her and now will break into a full on
the floor cry if she hears the word no. She also has decided she
prefers to not sleep in her crib but on top of me. This is a bad
habit, but I am not really sure what to do. We want her to trust
us and know we are here for her. She has also been sick. The
first 2 nights she slept wonderful in her crib, but then she
started running a fever, vomiting, and the restless nights
began! We have sent out multiple items to be washed and we have
washed 3 loads of laundry ourselves in the bathtub. In fact we
are still waiting for some to dry...we may have to resort to
using the hairdryer.
As for talking...she seems to babble. Of course she could be
speaking in Chinese and I would have no idea. She definitely
knows how to get what she wants. It is amazing how pointing with
noises gets you whatever you want when you are that cute! She
shakes her head "no" if she doesn't want something. She already
teases and has that Hanson ornery thing going for her.
Tomorrow we will be posting from Guangzhou!!! We shouldn't be
such a novelty there and hopefully will receive less stares.
Looking forward to the warmer weather and American food! Merry
Christmas!!! |
