I arrived safely yesterday in Nanning. What a thrill to arrive
in the
province that my daughter is in! I was filled with gratitude for
what
the Lord has allowed us to do, as He has provided for us
completely on
this journey to adopt our sweet Sophie.
My guide, David, met me
at the
airport and it was a beautiful drive to the hotel. David said Nanning is
referred to as the Green City because there is an abundance of
lush,
green plants and trees here.
My hotel is nice, it reminds me a lot of the hotel we stayed in
when we
adopted Isabelle. There is a little crib set up in the room, I
wonder
if Sophie will want to sleep in it? I wonder if she would even
fit? It
looks to be for an infant with side rails no taller than 18". It
might
be safer to just have her sleep by me ;)
I found out yesterday that 'gotcha' will not be until 4:15
today. I was
a little disappointed since I was planning on it being this
morning,
but this gives me some time to go shopping with David and buy
some things
that I think Sophie might like. I walked around for a few hours
yesterday by myself and I felt a bit conspicuous. I suppose my
light hair was
a giveaway that I was not from around here ;) I realized how
awkward I
felt, so out of place. This was exacerbated by the fact that I
could
not understand anything anyone was saying and also because I was
alone.
The experience made me incredibly grateful for my home in the
United
States and the comfort that I take for granted there. I can only
imagine
how out of place my little Sophie is going to feel when she is
taken
from all that is familiar to her and put in the midst of
strangers who are
not speaking her language.
I visited a lovely park within easy
walking
distance from the hotel. I think Sophie and I will be spending a
few
afternoons there! There are little rides for children, a
beautiful
walking path and a small lake filled with koi.
I slept fairly well considering today is such a big day!! There
are a
few other families on my floor that are adopting, but we haven't
really
had a chance to meet. I did meet four of the children of one of
the
families, all adopted from China, and the family is here to
adopt their
sixth! She is a six year old from a town near Guilin, I believe
they are
going to ride the same train to Guilin that Sophie and I will on
Thursday.
Please keep us in your prayers! |
